Find more about mattresses
A mattress is a piece of bedding typically consisting of multiple layers
of foams and fibers, along with an innerspring unit used to provide
support to one's back during sleep. Mattresses are usually used along
with a box-spring, made of metal springs or torsion bars on a wooden
frame, which supports the mattress and reduces wear and tear.
A box spring is a wooden frame, containing springs or some other form of
torsion and covered in cloth. It is placed beneath a mattress. A box
spring raises a mattress making it easier to get in and out of bed, and
it reduces wear on the mattress.
Some beds do not require a box spring, but most traditional metal-frame
or four-post beds do.
